Beschreibung

“Der Bergdoktor” (The Mountain Doctor) is a famous German-Austrian TV series, which is produced in the Wilder Kaiser region. The Bergdoktor circuit starts at the church square in Going where you’ll find our small info hut with lots of information about “Der Bergdoktor”. Here, next to the beautiful village fountain, there’s also the “Gasthof Wilder Kaiser” which features in the TV series. Since filming began in 2007, the TV landlady Susanne Dreiseitl is often to be seen waiting at the door of the former farmhouse for fresh deliveries from the “Gruberhof”. The Holy Cross Parish Church and its cemetery can be seen from far and wide, and in the film you have a bird’s eye views of the church and the village square again and again. The church is also a venue for private weddings and is worth a short detour. From Going it’s an easy ride up into the centre of Ellmau. The trail follows the Marchstrasse for about 2 km to the centre of Ellmau as far as the church and then on towards the Hartkaiserbahn gondola lift. Follow the road to the Faistenbichl district. The second house on the right on the very top of the plateau is the famous practice of the “Der Bergdoktor” TV series. Here the mountain doctor, alias Hans Sigl, runs his surgery with his mentor Dr Melchinger, alias Siegfried Rauch, and nurse Miss Schneider, alias Sophie Thomalla. Don’t let the sign on the front door irritate you. Since the brass sign saying “Dr. Martin Gruber” was always mysteriously disappearing, the old sign was put back up. It’s now downhill again from the Faistenbichl to the Gasthof Au inn. From outside the Gasthof Au the cycle trail leads to Scheffau. Follow this trail for about 5 km till you come out at the entrance to the village in Scheffau. Now you have to cross the main road once to go up into the centre of the small village at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser. Head towards the church as far as the Gasthof Maikircher inn, where you keep to the left and follow the road for about 3.5 km round several sharp bends. You come to the Hintersteiner See - once you catch sight of the mountain lake you’ll immediately understand why numerous scenes from “Der Bergdoktor” and other film productions such as “Die Hüttenwirtin” have been shot there. The road runs by the lake to the Pension Maier guesthouse. Enjoy the views along the lake and then cycle back to the Seestüberl restaurant where you can also recharge your e-bike. It’s then downhill heading towards the Brandstadl valley station to the B178 road. When you’re level with the petrol station, follow the signs on the cycle trail to Ellmau. Between Scheffau and Ellmau you then turn left into the Auwald district where you’ll find the Gasthof Föhrenhof. Two locations were used in the TV series for the “Gasthof Wilder Kaiser”: all the outdoor shots were filmed from the old Krämerhaus on the village square in Going, whilst the indoor scenes were shot in the renowned Föhrenhof in the Ellmau district of Auwald. The restaurant is a hot tip for gourmets - no wonder the Bergdoktor landlady Susanne Dreiseitl (Natalie O'Hara) feels so happy at the Föhrenhof. The Bergdoktor e-bike tour “Seeblick” again finishes in Ellmau or Going. From outside the “Ellmauer Hof” you can also take the trail through the underpass and bear left to the KaiserBad Ellmau and back to the centre of Ellmau or Going.
